Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard appoints Lyndon Williams to City Court Judge
August 3, 2020 — Today, Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard appointed Lyndon Williams for City Court Judge following the elevation of Judge Adrian Armstrong to the New York State Court of Claims. Williams will serve the remainder of Judge Armstrong’s term and run for election in November.
Lyndon Williams was selected after a thorough vetting and interview process before the Mayor’s Judicial Committee, chaired by William O. Wagstaff III, Esq. The committee reviewed several resumes submitted to the Mayor and gave three recommendations to the Mayor.
The members of the Judicial Committee consisted of four men and three women, the names of the committee members were: William O. Wagstaff III, Esq, Donna Jackson, Marlene Furtick, Mary Kingsley, Richard Morales, Dennis Hanratty and Rev. Hugh Marriot.
Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard said, “As a former drug court coordinator the years I served at the Mount Vernon City Court gave me a unique insight on the challenges & needs of the community. My choice is reflective of my experience during that time. Furthermore, we brought together individuals who have been impacted by the justice system to create a diverse panel of thought. I thank the judicial committee for coming together and providing great recommendations for City Court Judge. Lyndon Williams will be a welcomed addition to our City Court. He brings leadership, judicial knowledge and compassion to this position. I look forward to seeing them serve as a champion for our community. I want to thank the outstanding men and women who submitted their resume for judge, Mount Vernon is not lacking in talent when it comes to our pool of judicial candidates.”
William O. Newly appointed City Court Judge Lyndon Williams said, “I wish to thank Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard for placing her trust in me and giving me this opportunity to serve my community on the judiciary. I want to thank my family for their support as I take on a new role of public service. Over the past 12 years, I have served the residents of Mount Vernon with dignity, effectiveness, and dedication, as their County Legislator, and provided leadership on the Westchester County Board of Legislators. I intend to bring the same dedication and leadership skills in working with my colleagues on the Mount Vernon City Court to ensure equality, justice, and fairness in our judicial system as well as protecting the safety and well-being of our residents and families. The qualities of a judge require good character and temperament, to be fair and unbiased, respectful and efficient as well as the ability to apply the applicable law to the relevant facts at hand. I believe that my public service experience in the city and county legislative bodies, and legal experience and skills as an attorney handing complex legal matters, make me eminently qualified to serve Mount Vernon as its next City Court Judge.”
