Suspect Arrested In New Jersey in Shooting Death of Mount Vernon man

On Monday, July 13, 2020, members of the Mount Vernon Police Major Case Division with the assistance of the ATF, Westchester County District Attorney’s Office and the Essex County Prosecutors Office arrested 42-year-old John Bobbit in Newark NJ in connection with the murder of Kayshawn “Kanye” Smith. On April 28, 2020, at approximately 10:15pm, 28-year-old Smith was shot several times in front of 25 Millington Street and later died from his injuries. Bobbit is being held without bail at the Essex County Jail, pending an extradition hearing. This case is still active.
