The Ultimate Sacrifice

Completing the long-awaited renovation of Memorial Field is a fitting tribute to our fallen veterans.

Memorial Day is a time to honor our nation’s men and women in the military who gave their lives to ensure our freedom. There is no greater sacrifice and Mount Vernon has long acknowledged the fallen heroes of America’s armed services through the dedication of Memorial field, which acknowledges the memory of veterans from all wars. It was named in honor of those that made the ultimate sacrifice.

Completing the long-awaited renovation of Memorial Field is a fitting tribute to our military, and the grieving relatives they left behind, the gold star families: spouses, children, parents and other loved ones who must shoulder an enormous loss.

I am deeply grateful for their sacrifice and determined to honor their legacies through my own commitment to service.Today, as you celebrate this solemn holiday, remember those foot soldiers of freedom. By defending our nation, and its democracy, they have preserved the liberty enshrined to each of us in the constitution. Let us all do our parts to preserve that liberty by fully engaging in our great democracy.
