STATEMENT FROM MAYOR PATTERSON-HOWARD ON RECENT INDICTMENT OF CITY EMPLOYEE

As mayor, my administration is built on a platform of anti-corruption and transparency. I remain committed to these principles. When the city learned of this issue last October, my team and I took it seriously. We requested that any employees who received SBA Loans/ Grants contact their commissioners.

Seventeen employees came forward. Police Commissioner Glenn Scott compiled the information then handed it over to the proper authorities. My administration has fully cooperated with authorities and will continue to do so.

This is a hard day for Mount Vernon as we are a small and connected community and a situation like this will undoubtedly reverberate throughout our network of neighbors, family, and friends.

New York nursing homes will resume indoor visitations on Friday under new rules that ease current COVID-19 testing requirements for visitors and increase the capacity for each facility.

New Rules:

• No visitor testing would be required for nursing homes in counties with COVID test positivity rates below 5%, but health officials would still encourage visitors to get tested before entering the facility.
• If a county has test positivity between 5% and 10%, nursing home visitors are required to obtain a negative COVID test result within 72 hours before entering the facility.

Today, Friday, Feb. 19, Governor Cuomo announced that residents in parts of Yonkers and Mount Vernon will be able to begin making an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday, Feb. 24 at the new FEMA/New York State vaccination site in Southwest Yonkers, New York National Guard Armory at 2 Quincy Place.

Appointments for testing will open first for those with Mount Vernon zip codes 10550, 10552 and 10553 and Yonkers zip codes 10701, 10703, 10704 and 10705. On March 3, all Westchester County residents can begin making appointments.

Mount Vernon, NY — Today, the City of Mount Vernon is providing an update on the status of its internal investigations around allegations of corruption and police misconduct within the Mount Vernon Police Department (MVPD). The investigations commenced in July 2020, when MVPD requested audio tapes from Officer Murshea Bovell that alleged wrongdoing in the Narcotics squad of the department. These tapes were sent to Westchester County District Attorney’s office in February 2019 and shared with local media.
